The pedagogy of faith
Abstract
The pedagogy of faith at the Latin American Biblical University (UBL) has been characterized, since its opening a century ago, by a political commitment to the life of all God’s creation. It is a pedagogy that seeks to transform spaces dominated by economic, political, military, and cultural death through education in alternative ways of life characterized by solidarity, critical thinking, and peace. This is not an individualistic education, as individualism promotes selfishness, indifference, and inequality, but rather a communal education in which the biblical text and the contexts in which the Word is embodied are discerned to transform practices of death. Over these hundred years, various popular and academic pedagogical programs have been developed, ensuring a democratization of education supported by a philosophy organized around three basic elements: conceptual pillars, referents, and transversal axes. Moreover, the UBL has not been built in isolation, but rather linked in a network of local, regional, national, and international institutions.
