Interview with the Methodist bishop of Peru, César Llanco Zavaleta
A biography of theological and pastoral commitment
Abstract
This text briefly describes the pastoral ministry of Rev. César Llanco Zavaleta, bishop of the Methodist Church of Peru. The content of the text is the product of an interview conducted with Bishop César, in the context of the intersection between national reality, testimony of the Christian faith and theological-pastoral formation. The dialogue moves from the bishop’s profile and personal trajectory to a critical analysis of the Peruvian social context, marked by inequality and the search for justice. In the ministerial sphere, the missionary challenges faced are examined, highlighting the theological formation processes of the Methodist communities in Peru, which are fundamental for generating resilience and collective empowerment in contexts of crisis and gender and cultural diversity. Consequently, the interview presents the pastoral challenges and expectations of the Methodist Church of Peru, proposing a strategic vision where the religious mission seeks not only spiritual growth but also tangible social transformation. It is an essential testimony to the role of historic churches in the face of the social and pastoral challenges of the 21st century.
