The road to Emmaus
A therapeutic path in the midst of the Covid 19 pandemic
Abstract
This article reads the text of “The Road to Emmaus” (Luke 24, 13-35) as a therapeutic path among the current pandemic Covid 19. Prior to approaching the text, there is an introduction to the concept of crisis, from the mental health field, in order to point out the multiple effects of the pandemic on human life. There is also an introduction to the Biopsychosocial-spiritual model to propose a holistic view of human experiences during a crisis. Then, the article focuses on the psychological and spiritual dimensions, which will mediate the experience on the road. There, the disciples are involved in a therapeutic relationship with the Risen Jesus, the therapist on the road.
Biblical texts quoted are taken from the version “Dios Habla Hoy” (DHH). Exceptions are specifically cited.
