Death in the book of Proverbs
Abstract
This article presents the result of the stylistic analysis of biblical proverbs that directly allude to death. The analysis is carried out taking into consideration a theoretical framework of cultural anthropology related to death. This framework indicates that there are different types of death and that they all have one thing in common: the idea of ??separation or cut. The analysis of the different proverbs pays attention to the style, rhythm and sound of their formulation and tests possible translations that respect not only the semantic level of each piece but also these other dimensions less considered in the usual translations. The totality of the analyzed texts is organized in a network of meanings that, despite the dispersion of the proverbs within the homonymous biblical book, allows an overall reading.
