Octavio, Jomeini y Jesús
Abstract
Octavian, Khomeini and Jesus are three historical personalities who changed the course of human history and whose ideological prints can still be seen today. All three figures were involved in one way or another in the struggle for political and religious power in their times. From a human viewpoint, Octavian, with the pax romana, and Khomeini, with the wilayat al-faqih, came out victorious from this struggle for power. Octavian reigned over Rome and the empire as emperor and pontifex maximus, and Khomeini led the Iranian people as faqih, ayatolá and imam.
In this struggle for political and religious power, Jesus serves as an anti-model to Octavian and Khomeini. Jesus’ differing position will be highlighted through Philippians 2:6-11 and Mark 11:15-18. We will look at the different values which guided these three figures to give distinctive answers to the struggle for political and religious power.
