Abstract

In the context of crisis and the lack of values that Latin America is experiencing, it is important to lift up models of exemplary men and women who have left their mark in their family life as well as their relationship with others. This article presents John A. Mackay as one of the paradigmatic men of the 20th century who, born in Scotland, didn’t hesitate to commit himself to the well-being of Latin American youth. Mackay showed himself to be a fervent admirer and disciple of Miguel de Unamuno, but above all the center and meaning of his life was Jesus Christ. The theology of social commitment that Mackay practiced revolved around the meaning of life in solidarity with the Peruvian and Latin American people.
Mackay’s mission was not that Latin America convert to Protestantism but rather that Christ be incarnated in Latin America.
