The social validity of prosperity theology
Abstract
The discursive validity of the theology of prosperity is conditioned by a context that, on the one hand, generates economic insecurity for groups that in the recent past had assured stability and, on the other hand, aggravated the vulnerability of excluded groups. To this situation is added the growing inequality and responsibility that culture assigns to the individual of the success or failure of his life. The theology of prosperity offers a way of thinking, feeling and giving meaning to the identity and self-perception of the person, which allows him to face with resilience the vicissitudes of these social contexts. To generate this analysis this analysis, we will resort to the particular socio-economic context of Costa Rica in the years that go from the present century.
