From 1 Corinthians 13,4-7 to femicide in Latin America
A reflection from the gender perspective
Abstract
The article is a personal reflection on the construction of gender identity. The patriarchal system is historically reproduced through roles and stereotypes that aim to perpetuate an ideology about the body, sexuality and the way of understanding love in couple relationships. Silences on these subjects form human thoughts and feelings. The feminine identity is exacerbated when one thinks that she is a “being for the other”, with the consequent guilt of looking at herself. This causes an imbalance in love relationships, perpetuating the dominance of one over the other that, in extreme cases of alienation, lead to femicide. These abusive behaviors have been, on many occasions, caused by misinterpretations of the biblical texts. An example of this is the text of l Corinthians 13.4-7 sometimes used to perpetuate the aggression of the woman. Another way of understanding it is suggested as a contribution to the spiritual liberation that is needed.
