Abstract

This paper analyses the ways in which theologian José Comblin prefigured the scope of a biopolitical critique of the Christian theology behind the National Security doctrine in Latin America and its development ideology.
It uses Foucault’s biopolitical theory to explore Comblin’s critique of the mechanisms of production of the body politic within the National Security apparatus. Based on this, the author proposes a set of analytical approaches that allow us to identify the theological roots that sustain economic policies in Latin America.
