Del desamparo a la fraternidad universal: el sufrimiento en César Vallejo
Abstract
The portrait of the poet offers clues to the themes of suffering present in his poetry: a combination of native land and “mestizaje” that transcends the physical, still laughter, eloquent silence. Descriptions by his contemporaries point out his intense sensitivity and his intimacy with pain: a climate of vulnerability in Trilce, the emptiness of not being able to give oneself to another in Ágape, the inevitability of suffering in Los nueve montruos. In España aparta de mí este cáliz, suffering and death are transcended by utopia, those who suffer arise now in a harsh and endless struggle.
