Currently, the global political landscape is undergoing profound transformations, giving way to an increasingly multipolar world with diverse and complex repercussions for the local realities of all societies worldwide. This scenario is clearly reflected in the weakening of traditional hegemonies, the emergence of new centers of economic, political, and cultural power, and the intensification of geopolitical conflicts, all of which have reshaped international relations and the internal dynamics of states, especially in Latin America and the Caribbean. Given the importance of critically reflecting on the relationship between religion and politics in the current multipolar global context, the journal Vida y Pensamiento considers it pertinent to dedicate an issue to this topic from various perspectives within theological sciences.

Vol. 45 No. 2 (2025): Thinking/Interpreting the Bible in contemporary society: Fundamentalisms, struggles and resistances

The relationships between the Bible and culture, the Bible and politics, the Bible and society were the central motivation to discuss, in detail, the role that religious discourse has in new forms of fundamentalism. The reduction of the meaning of the texts and their use for the purposes of controlling people and communities is something that, unfortunately, has always accompanied biblical interpretation. In what way, from the exegetical discipline, can we confront this phenomenon and provide new, more humane and humanizing solutions?
